Alagna (which is called Lagna in the local Lombard language) is a small town, also known as a comune or municipality. It is located in the Province of Pavia, which is part of the Lombardy region in Italy.
Alagna is about 40 kilometers (25 miles) southwest of Milan and about 20 kilometers (12 miles) west of Pavia. As of December 2004, about 876 people lived there. The town covers an area of 8.6 square kilometers (3.3 square miles).
Alagna shares its borders with a few other towns. These include Dorno, Garlasco, Tromello, and Valeggio.
Alagna's Population Over Time
The number of people living in Alagna has changed quite a bit over the years. For example, in 1881, the town had its highest recorded population with 1,519 people. However, by 2001, the population had decreased to 755 people. This shows how towns can grow and shrink in size over many decades.
