Alamo Township is a community located in Kalamazoo County in the state of Michigan, United States. It is called a "civil township," which is a type of local government area. As of the 2020 census, about 3,805 people lived in Alamo Township. It's a place where people live, work, and enjoy the natural surroundings of Michigan.
Geography of Alamo Township
Alamo Township is found in the northwest corner of Kalamazoo County. It shares its northern border with Allegan County. To its west, you'll find Van Buren County.
A major road, U.S. Route 131, runs through the eastern part of the township. This highway can take you south to the city of Kalamazoo or north to Grand Rapids.
The township covers a total area of about 94.3 square kilometers (about 36.4 square miles). Most of this area, about 93.8 square kilometers (36.2 square miles), is land. The rest, about 0.5 square kilometers (0.2 square miles), is water.
Who Lives in Alamo Township?
Based on information from the year 2000, there were 3,820 people living in Alamo Township. These people lived in 1,378 homes, with many of them being families.
The people living in the township came from different backgrounds. Most residents were White. There were also smaller groups of African American, Native American, and Asian residents. Some people identified as being from two or more races. A small percentage of the population was Hispanic or Latino.
The population included people of all ages. About 26% of the residents were under 18 years old. Around 15.5% were 65 years old or older. The average age of people in the township was 41 years.
History of Alamo Township
In 2021, the local government group for the township, called the Township Board, made a decision to close the Alamo Township Museum.
