Alan Lybrooks Henderson (born December 2, 1972) is a former professional basketball player from the United States. He played in the National Basketball Association (NBA). Alan is 6 ft 9 in (2.06 m) tall. He was born in Morgantown, West Virginia.

Henderson went to Brebeuf Jesuit Preparatory School in Indianapolis, Indiana. In his final year, his team lost the state championship game. In 1994, he was part of the US men's basketball team. They played in the Goodwill Games.

College Basketball Career

Alan Henderson played college basketball at Indiana University. He was a star player there. He led his team in getting rebounds every year he played. This means he was great at grabbing the ball after a shot missed.

He is the only Indiana University player to be in the top five for rebounds, blocked shots, and steals. He is also ninth in scoring for the school. In 1992, his team reached the Final Four. This is a big achievement in college basketball.

In 1995, Alan's scoring average was 23.5 points per game. This was the highest for any Indiana player during coach Bob Knight's time. Alan also studied biology in college. He was accepted into medical school after graduating.

NBA Career Highlights

In 1995, Alan Henderson was chosen by the Atlanta Hawks in the NBA draft. He was the 16th player picked overall. He played for the Hawks for many years. Later, he also played for the Dallas Mavericks, Cleveland Cavaliers, and Philadelphia 76ers.

Early Years with the Hawks

In his first year (1995–96) with the Hawks, Alan was second on his team in blocked shots. During the 1997–98 season, he won the NBA Most Improved Player Award. This award goes to the player who has shown the most improvement. That season, he averaged 14.3 points and 6.4 rebounds per game.

Later Teams and Retirement

On August 4, 2004, Alan was traded to the Dallas Mavericks. He was later traded to the Milwaukee Bucks in 2005. The Bucks then released him. A few days later, he re-signed with the Mavericks.

In September 2005, Alan signed with the Cleveland Cavaliers. He played in 51 games for them. In September 2006, he joined the Philadelphia 76ers.

In February 2007, Alan was traded to the Utah Jazz. However, he was released from that team shortly after. He then re-signed with the 76ers for the rest of that season. Alan Henderson played in 652 NBA games during his career. He averaged 7.8 points, 5 rebounds, and 0.6 assists per game.

Alan Henderson is married to Maxine and they have four children. They live in Indiana.
