Sergio Ciani (born September 7, 1931 – died September 5, 2015), known to many as Alan Steel, was a strong Italian bodybuilder and actor. He was famous for playing powerful heroes in movies.
Sergio was born in Rome, Italy. He began his career doing dangerous stunts in films. He also worked as a body double for actor Steve Reeves. This meant he looked like Steve and stood in for him in some scenes, especially in movies like Hercules Unchained and The Giant of Marathon.
In the early 1960s, he started using the name Alan Steel. He became a star in many peplum films. These were adventure movies, often about ancient heroes like Hercules, Ursus, or Samson. Alan Steel was special because he was one of the few Italian actors to play these strong heroes. He even played Robin Hood in the 1976 adventure film Storia di arcieri, pugni e occhi neri. As these types of movies became less popular, Alan Steel appeared in fewer films. He retired from acting in the late 1970s.
Sergio Ciani passed away peacefully at his home in Ostia, Rome. He was 79 years old, just two days before his 80th birthday.
