Alan Titley is an Irish writer, translator, and professor. He writes mainly in the Irish language. He was born in Cork, Ireland, in 1947. He is known for his novels, plays, and newspaper columns. He is also a member of the Royal Irish Academy.

Early Life and Education

Alan Titley was born in Cork City. He went to school at Coláiste Chríost Rí. He also studied at St. Patrick's College, Drumcondra. Later, he attended University College Dublin.

His Career

Alan Titley has had a long and interesting career. He started teaching in Nigeria for a time. This was during the Biafra War.

Teaching and Writing

In 1981, he became the head of the Irish Department in Drumcondra. This meant he was in charge of teaching the Irish language there. From 2003, he began writing a regular column. These columns appeared in The Irish Times newspaper. He used the pen name Crobhingne for these writings.

Professor and Retirement

In 2006, Alan Titley was made a Professor of Modern Irish. He taught at University College Cork. He retired from this teaching role in 2011.
