Tustumena, Alaska Marine Highway
The M/V Tustumena, one of the ferries, tied up at a dock in Kodiak. The big blue object on the back of the boat is part of the elevator for putting cars in the ship's hold.

The Alaska Marine Highway (AMHS) is like a floating road system in Alaska. It's a special ferry service run by the state government. Its main office is in Ketchikan, Alaska.

These ferries are super versatile! Passengers can relax inside in comfy lounges or private cabins. You can also enjoy the fresh air on the "sun deck." If you're traveling with a car or other vehicle, you can bring it along for an extra fee. The ferries travel along the beautiful coast of Alaska. They also go out to the Aleutian Islands. Sometimes, they even make trips all the way down to Bellingham, Washington.
