Albany Parks & Recreation facts for kids
The Albany Parks & Recreation is a group in Albany, Oregon, that takes care of the city's parks. They also plan fun events for everyone! Their main office is at City Hall. A big goal for Albany is to make sure everyone lives close to a park, within about 2 miles (3 km).

Explore Albany's Parks
Albany has many different parks for you to explore. Each park offers unique features for fun and relaxation.
Albany Skatepark
The Albany Skatepark is a cool concrete park for skateboarders, in-line skaters, and rollerskaters. It has different heights and shapes to practice your tricks. You can find it next to the Albany Skating Rink. Many people from nearby towns come here to skate!
Bowman Park
Bowman Park is a large, 26-acre (11 ha) park right by the Willamette River. It has big open grassy areas and lots of trees. You can have a picnic, use the barbecue pits, or launch a boat into the river. There are also trails to explore and restrooms available.
Bryant Park
Bryant Park is a huge 72-acre park with lots to do! It has fields for softball and football, plus horseshoe pits and playgrounds. You can also have picnics here. The park offers access to both the Calapooia River and the Willamette River. Local youth softball teams often play their games on the fields here.
Burkhart Park
Burkhart Park is a 2-acre (8,100 m2) park with many sports options. It features a basketball court, a horseshoe pit, and a softball field. You'll also find tennis courts and a play area for kids. Barbecue grills are available for cookouts.
Burkhart Square
Burkhart Square is a small, 1-acre (4,000 m2) paved park. It's located right next to the Albany Civic Theater. This park has picnic tables and pretty planted areas, perfect for a quiet break.
Deerfield Park
Deerfield Park is in the southeast part of Albany. It has basketball courts, a softball field, and fun play equipment. You can also use the barbecue grills here. The park offers access to a walking trail and a bike path.
Doug Killin Friendship Park
Doug Killin Friendship Park is one of Albany's newer parks. It's a 1.8-acre (7,300 m2) park, great for a quick visit or some outdoor play.
Draper Park
Draper Park is next to Lafayette Elementary School. It features a softball field, a basketball court, and play equipment. You can also find barbecue grills here for outdoor meals.
Eads Park
Eads Park is another one of Albany's newer parks. It's located at the corner of Alco and Linn Avenue.
Eleanor Hackleman Park
Eleanor Hackleman Park is across the road from the Albany Skatepark. It's named after Eleanor Hackleman, an important person in Albany's history. This park is also home to the beautiful Albany Rose Society Rose Gardens.
Gibson Hill Park
Gibson Hill Park is a seven-acre park in North Albany. It's in a growing neighborhood and next to a fire station. This park has basketball courts, playground equipment, and sand volleyball. You can also find bike paths, walking trails, and a large open grassy area with sidewalks.
Grand Prairie Park
Albany's Grand Prairie Park is a 10-acre park that circles Grand Prairie Lake. The Periwinkle Creek also runs through the park. It's the starting point for the Periwinkle bike trail. The park has a basketball court, a disc golf course, play equipment, and a softball field. Many people enjoy fishing in the lake. There's also a covered shelter, public restrooms, and barbecue grills.
Hazelwood Park
Hazelwood Park is a 3-acre (12,000 m2) park on the far west side of Albany. It features play equipment for entertainment and fun.
Henderson Park
Henderson Park is one of Albany's smaller parks, only 1-acre (4,000 m2). It's located near the historic part of the city, along the canal. The park has play equipment, a basketball court, and a tennis court.
Kinder Park
Kinder Park is another one of Albany's newer parks. It's located along Oak Street, near the other end of the Periwinkle Bike Path from Grand Prairie Park. It has two softball fields, play equipment, park benches, and picnic tables. You'll also find open grass fields for various activities.
Lehigh Park
Lehigh Park is a 5-acre (20,000 m2) park with lots of large trees. It features basketball courts, a softball field, and play equipment for everyone to enjoy.
Lexington Park
Lexington Park is a 5-acre (20,000 m2) park with a large play structure and a sitting area. This park is also where the Legacy Forest program is located. The Legacy Forest allows people to plant trees to remember individuals or organizations.
Maple Lawn Park
Maple Lawn Park is a 2-acre (8,100 m2) park connected to the Maple Lawn Preschool. It features a play structure, pretty planted gardens, and open grassy spaces for play.
Monteith Riverpark
Monteith Riverpark is a six-acre park in downtown Albany, right on Water Avenue. This park is famous for hosting the River Rhythms concert series on the Monteith Stage. It has many paths for biking and walking, restrooms, a playground, and a covered meeting area. There are also horseshoe pits and a big grassy area. You can access a marina dock, the Willamette River, and the Calapooia River from here.
Periwinkle Park
Periwinkle Park is a 7-acre (28,000 m2) park located right behind Periwinkle Elementary School. Periwinkle Creek and its bike path run alongside the park. The creek flows into Periwinkle Pond within the park. The park also has several play structures, often used by the school. In spring, summer, and autumn, hundreds of ducks often visit the park and pond!
Pineway Park
Pineway Park is a 2-acre park with play equipment, BBQ grills, and a basketball court. It's located in the southeast part of Albany.
Takena Landing
Takena Landing is a large 72-acre park on the north bank of the Willamette River. It's known for its boat ramp, where many people launch their boats. The park also has green spaces shaded by big trees, barbecue grills, and a wooden dock for temporary boat parking.
Timber Linn Park
Timber Linn Park is a huge 90-acre park with lots of open space. It has basketball courts, softball fields, and horseshoe pits. You'll find various paths for biking and walking, playgrounds, and covered meeting areas. There are also tennis courts and a Frisbee field. Next to the park is an outdoor amphitheater used for concerts. You can even see a World War II era 155mm Long Tom heavy field artillery piece on display here!
Waverly Park
Waverly Park is a 20-acre park where Waverly Lake takes up most of the space. You can enjoy paddle boat rides here during certain seasons. The lake is also home to a giant floating foam duck that has been there for over ten years! The park offers barbecue grills, picnic tables, access to bike paths, restrooms, and beautiful trees and green spaces.
