Albert King, born on December 17, 1959, is a famous American former professional basketball player. He is the younger brother of Bernard King, who is also a basketball legend and a Hall of Famer. Albert played basketball at Fort Hamilton High School in Brooklyn, New York. Many people think he was one of the best high school players ever! In his final year of high school, he was even ranked higher than famous players like Magic Johnson.
Albert is 6 feet 6 inches tall and played as a guard and forward. He went to the University of Maryland. The New Jersey Nets picked him as the 10th player overall in the 1981 NBA draft. He played for nine seasons in the NBA with four different teams.

Early Life and High School Basketball
Albert King grew up in Brooklyn, New York. He went to Fort Hamilton High School. He was so good at basketball that he was chosen for the first-ever McDonald's All-American team. This team played in a special game called the 1977 Capital Classic.
College Career at Maryland
Albert King played college basketball for the University of Maryland.
Top College Player
During the 1979–80 college season, Albert was named the ACC Player of the Year. This is a big award for the best player in the Atlantic Coast Conference. He was so popular that he appeared on the cover of Sports Illustrated magazine twice in 1980!
Memorable Moments
One of his most exciting moments was a powerful dunk over Duke's center, Mike Gminski. This happened during a home game at Cole Field House. At that time, the Duke team was ranked number one in the country. Albert led his team in scoring that night, helping Maryland beat Duke 101–82.
Honored Jersey
The Maryland basketball program honored Albert King's jersey number, 55. This means his number is special and recognized by the team. In 2002, he was also named one of the fifty greatest players in Atlantic Coast Conference history.
Professional Basketball Career
Albert King played in the NBA for nine seasons. He played for the New Jersey Nets, Philadelphia 76ers, San Antonio Spurs, and Washington Bullets.

His best years in the NBA were with the New Jersey Nets, from 1981 to 1987. During the 1982–83 season, he played in 79 games. He scored an average of 17.0 points per game and made 3.7 assists per game. In his whole NBA career, he played 534 games and scored a total of 6,470 points.
Playing in Italy and Israel
After his time in the NBA, Albert also played basketball overseas.
- In 1989, he joined Olimpia Milano in the Italian Basketball League. He helped his team win the championship title. He scored 22 points in the final game, which was his highest score that season.
- In 1990, he played for Hapoel Holon in the Israeli Basketball League. He averaged 22.8 points per game in 11 games.
Return to the NBA
Albert King returned to the NBA in September 1991. He signed with the Washington Bullets. He played in 6 games before leaving the team in November.
Personal Life
Albert King is the younger brother of Bernard King, another famous NBA player. They grew up together in the Fort Greene area of Brooklyn. Albert also has two older brothers who played college basketball.
