Albert Marcet Torrens was born on April 11, 1960. He is a Spanish economist. An economist is someone who studies how people and countries make choices about money, resources, and goods. Albert Marcet is an expert in big picture economics (macroeconomics), how things change over time (time series), money matters (financial economics), and how economies grow and change (economic dynamic theory).

He is currently a professor of macroeconomics at the UCL Department of Economics. He has also been a research professor at the ICREA and the director of the Institute for Economic Analysis (IAE). This institute is a research center of the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC). He is also an expert on macroeconomic risk at the Barcelona Graduate School of Economics. Since 1992, he has been a Research Fellow at the Centre for Economic Policy Research (CEPR).

Albert Marcet has had an exciting career in the world of economics.

Early Education and Teaching Roles

He earned his first degree in Economics from Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona. Later, he received his PhD in Economics from the University of Minnesota.

He taught economics at the London School of Economics and at Universitat Pompeu Fabra (UPF). These are well-known universities where he shared his knowledge with students.

Leadership and Research

In 2007, he became the President of the Spanish Economic Association. This is a big honor, showing his leadership in the field.

In 2013, he received an important grant from the European Research Council (ERC). This grant helped him work on a project about how asset prices and big economic policies are affected when people learn new things.

Professor Marcet was also the first director of the Barcelona GSE Master in Macroeconomic Policy and Financial Markets. Now, he helps guide the program as its Scientific Director and teaches advanced courses there.

He has done a lot of work on how people's expectations affect the economy. He worked with famous economists like Thomas Sargent and Juan Pablo Nicolini on these ideas.

Awards and Recognitions

Albert Marcet has received several important awards for his work in economics.
