Alberto Federico 'Beto' Acosta Tabizzi, born on August 23, 1966, is a famous former football player from Argentina. He was a fantastic striker, which means he was great at scoring goals! Beto played professional football for 18 years. During this time, he played almost 700 official games and scored over 250 goals. He played for many different teams, including San Lorenzo in Argentina four separate times. He also played for clubs in France, Chile, Japan, and Portugal. Beto even played for the Argentine national team in two big tournaments called the Copa América.

Beto Acosta's Club Career

Beto Acosta started his professional football journey in his home country, Argentina. He was born in Arocena, Santa Fe Province.

Starting in Argentina

Beto began playing for Unión de Santa Fe. He made his first appearance in Argentina's top football league just before his 20th birthday. Two years later, he moved to San Lorenzo de Almagro. This was the first of four times he would play for this club during his long career. In his first two seasons with San Lorenzo, he scored an amazing 34 goals!

Playing in Europe and Asia

In 1990, Beto decided to try playing football outside Argentina. He joined Toulouse FC in France. After a short time there, he returned to San Lorenzo. He continued to score many goals, which led him to join another big Argentine club, Boca Juniors.

After playing for Boca Juniors, Beto spent three years playing outside Argentina again. He played for Club Deportivo Universidad Católica in Chile. He was a top scorer in South American football in 1994, scoring 33 goals in just 25 games! During this time, he also played in Japan for Yokohama Marinos.

In 1998, Beto moved to Sporting Clube de Portugal in Portugal. In his first full season, when he was 33 years old, he scored 22 goals. This helped his team win the Primeira Liga championship, which was a huge deal because they hadn't won it in 18 years! He scored 14 more goals the next season.

Returning to San Lorenzo and Retirement

After his time in Portugal, Beto returned to San Lorenzo for the fourth and final time. He kept scoring lots of goals, always reaching double digits each season. He retired in 2004 at the age of 37. Beto scored over 300 goals in 666 official games throughout his career.

After Playing: Coaching

After retiring as a player, Beto started a new career as a coach. He began coaching in Romania with FCM Dunărea Galaţi. Later, he returned to Argentina. He even played a few games for Club Atlético Fénix while also being part of their coaching staff.

Playing for Argentina

Beto Acosta played for the Argentine national team 19 times over three years. He represented his country in two Copa América tournaments. In the 1993 tournament in Ecuador, he helped Argentina win by successfully scoring in penalty shootouts during the quarter-finals and semi-finals. Argentina ended up winning the whole tournament!
