Alberto Bevilacqua (born June 27, 1934 – died September 9, 2013) was a famous Italian writer and filmmaker. He was born in Parma, Italy. Bevilacqua wrote many books and also directed movies.
A well-known Italian writer named Leonardo Sciascia was very impressed by Alberto's first collection of stories. This book was called The Dust on the Grass and came out in 1955. Sciascia helped get it published. Also, a person named Mario Colombi Guidotti started publishing Alberto's stories in a newspaper called the Journal of Parma in the early 1950s.

Early Works and Breakthrough Novels
Alberto Bevilacqua published his first book of poems in 1961. It was titled Friendship Lost. His novel Caliph, released in 1964, was a huge success. The main character, or protagonist, in Caliph is Irene Corsini. She is known as one of the strongest female characters in Italian literature.
Another important novel by Bevilacqua was This Kind of Love. It won the Campiello Prize in 1966. This is a very important literary award in Italy. Alberto Bevilacqua even helped turn both This Kind of Love and Caliph into movies. The film version of This Kind of Love won the award for Best Film at the famous Cannes Film Festival.
A Poet and Global Writer
Besides writing novels, Alberto Bevilacqua was also a talented poet. His books and poems have been translated into many languages. People in Europe, the United States, Brazil, China, and Japan have read his work. In 2010, seven of his special "stories" were included in a very important Italian book series called "I Meridiani." This shows how much his writing was valued.
Bevilacqua as a Film Director
Alberto Bevilacqua didn't just write stories; he also directed films. He directed seven movies between 1970 and 1999. His 1970 film, La califfa, was chosen to be shown at the 1971 Cannes Film Festival. This was a big honor for him as a director.

Alberto Bevilacqua passed away in Rome, Italy, on September 9, 2013. He was 79 years old. He had been in the hospital since October 2012 due to heart problems. He died from cardiac arrest. Bevilacqua left behind a great collection of books and films that are still enjoyed today.
