The Alder Brook Watershed
A watershed is an area of land where all the water drains into a single stream, river, or lake. The Alder Brook watershed covers about 6.63 square miles (17.2 km2) of land. This area is part of what's called the Erie Drift Plain, which was shaped by glaciers long ago.
The watershed gets a good amount of rain and snow, averaging about 46.2 inches each year. About 41% of the land in this watershed is covered by forests. This means there are many trees that help keep the water clean and provide homes for wildlife.
