Aldo Leao Ramírez Sierra (born on April 18, 1981) is a talented Colombian footballer. He also has Mexican citizenship.

Ramírez started his professional journey with Santa Fe in Colombia. He later played for Atlético Nacional, where he helped his team win two league titles in a row. In 2008, Aldo moved to the Mexican club Monarcas Morelia. He spent most of his career there. Ramírez helped Morelia win the 2010 North American SuperLiga and the Apertura 2013 Copa MX. He even became the team captain for Morelia in 2014.

Aldo Ramírez also played for the Colombian national team at both youth and senior levels. He first played for the senior team in 2002. His first goal for Colombia was in 2005 during a game against England.

Aldo Ramírez's Football Journey

Starting with Santa Fe

Aldo Ramírez grew up playing in the youth academy of Atlético Nacional. He made his first professional appearance with Independiente Santa Fe in 1999. In his first year, Santa Fe reached the final of the 1999 Copa Merconorte. They lost the final in a penalty shootout.

In the year 2000, Ramírez helped Santa Fe finish second in the league. He played in 36 games and scored three goals. He continued to play many games for Santa Fe in the following years. In 2004, he scored eight goals for the team.

In 2005, Santa Fe made it to the playoffs again. They reached the league final against Atlético Nacional. Ramírez played in both games of the final, but Santa Fe lost 2–0.

Playing for Atlético Nacional

After the 2005 season, Ramírez joined Atlético Nacional. This was the same team that had just beaten Santa Fe in the final. His first season with Nacional was not easy, and the team did not make the semifinals. In 2006, injuries limited his playing time.

Winning Back-to-Back Titles

In 2007, Atlético Nacional had a great start to the season. Ramírez played a key role in the team. He helped Nacional win their group and reach the final against Atlético Huila. Nacional won the first game 1–0. In the second game, Nacional won 2–1, securing their first league title. Ramírez was a very important player in this championship win.

Nacional continued their success in the second tournament of 2007. They went undefeated in their first eight league games. Ramírez was a regular starter for the team. On December 20, 2007, Ramírez moved to the Mexican club Monarcas Morelia. He made his first appearance for Morelia in a tournament game in Houston, Texas. His league debut for Morelia was a 1–0 win against Veracruz. In his second game, Ramírez scored two goals as Morelia won 3–2 against Pachuca.

A Short Return to Colombia

After two seasons in Mexico, Ramírez was loaned back to his old club, Atlético Nacional, for six months in 2009. He played in 15 games and scored one goal. After this loan, Morelia wanted him back, and he returned to Mexico.

Success with Morelia

Ramírez started the 2009 season strong, scoring a goal in his first game back with Morelia. He helped Morelia finish third in the league, which meant they qualified for the playoffs. Morelia reached the semifinals but lost to Cruz Azul.

In the 2010 season, Ramírez helped Morelia qualify for the playoffs again. They reached the semifinals but were eliminated by Santos Laguna. Ramírez also played in the Copa Libertadores for Morelia.

Aldo Ramírez made his first appearance for the Colombian national team on November 20, 2002. He played in friendly games in 2003 and 2005. Ramírez scored his first international goal in a friendly game against England in 2005. Colombia lost that game 3–2. He also played in the 2005 CONCACAF Gold Cup, where Colombia reached the semifinals.

In 2007, Ramírez played in three World Cup qualifying matches. He received another call-up to the national team in 2012 by the new manager, José Pékerman. Ramírez started the game against Mexico, which Colombia won 2–0. Pékerman often called Ramírez for World Cup qualifiers and friendly games. Ramírez was known for his strong performances when coming off the bench.

On September 11, 2012, Ramírez came off the bench in a World Cup qualifier against Chile. Five minutes later, he assisted Radamel Falcao for a goal that helped Colombia win 3–1. Colombia later qualified for their first World Cup in 16 years in 2013.
