Aleksandra Pivec (born March 26, 1972) is a Slovenian politician and a chemical engineer. She used to be a minister in charge of farming, forests, and food in Slovenia. She also served as a Deputy Prime Minister.
Early Life and Learning
Aleksandra Pivec was born in Ptuj, Slovenia, on March 26, 1972. Her family has a history of making wine.
She studied at the University of Ljubljana. She earned a Bachelor's degree and a PhD in chemical engineering. Her special project was about making wine fermentation better.
Her Work and Political Journey
Aleksandra worked for 17 years at a research center called Bistra Ptuj. For six of those years, she was the director.
In 2016, she became a state secretary for Slovenians living abroad. Later, on September 13, 2018, she was chosen to be the Minister for Agriculture. This was in the government led by Marjan Šarec. As a minister, she became well-known and often appeared at events across the country.
On January 18, 2020, Aleksandra Pivec became the leader of the Democratic Party of Pensioners of Slovenia. She won against Karl Erjavec, who was the Defence Minister at the time. After she won, he stepped down. During the campaign, some questions arose about her past work.
On March 13, 2020, she became the Deputy Prime Minister. This was in the government led by Prime Minister Janez Janša.
