Aleksey Mikhailovich Igudesman (born February 22, 1973) is a talented Russian-German musician. He is known as a violinist and a composer. You might also know him from the funny music duo called Igudesman & Joo.

About Aleksey Igudesman

Early Life and Education

Aleksey Igudesman was born in Leningrad, which was then part of the Soviet Union. He came from a family of musicians. When he was six years old, his family moved to Germany.

At the age of 12, he was accepted into the famous Yehudi Menuhin School in England. This is a special school for young musicians. From 1989 to 1998, he studied violin with Boris Kuschnir at the Vienna Conservatory.

Books and Music Projects

Igudesman has written several books that teach about music. These include Style Workout, The Catscratchbook, and Pigs Can Fly. He also wrote violin duet books like Klezmer & More and Celtic & More. These books are published by Universal Edition.

He has a project called Violins of the World. For this, he plays violin duets with famous violinists. Some of these include Gidon Kremer and Janine Jansen. His poems have even been read by the actor Roger Moore.

Aleksey Igudesman also performs with his string trio, Triology. They have played concerts all over the world. They have also recorded several music CDs for Sony BMG.

Compositions and Awards

In 2009 and 2010, Igudesman released his first three violin sonatas. A sonata is a piece of music for one or two instruments. He dedicated his second sonata to violinist Julian Rachlin. The third sonata was for violinist Viktoria Mullova.

In 2009, he won third place in the Crossover Composer Award. This was for his musical work called The Heat of Passion.

Igudesman & Joo

Aleksey Igudesman often tours with pianist Hyung-ki Joo. They form a popular music and comedy duo called Igudesman & Joo. They are known for their funny and entertaining shows.

Film and Other Work

Igudesman is also an actor and a film director. He directed a movie called Noseland [de]. This film is a mockumentary, which means it's a funny movie that looks like a real documentary. It's about classical musicians and actors like John Malkovich and Roger Moore.

Noseland first showed at a film festival in Romania in 2012. It won an award for "Most Entertaining Documentary" at DocMiami 2012. It was also shown in movie theaters in Germany.

Aleksey Igudesman also helped start Music Traveler. This is an app that helps musicians find and book practice rooms. Many famous musicians are ambassadors for Music Traveler. These include Billy Joel, Hans Zimmer, and John Malkovich.

Since 2017, Igudesman has been touring with his show The Music Critic. In this show, actor John Malkovich plays the main role of a music critic.
