Early Life and Musical Journey
Julian was born in Vilnius, Lithuania. When he was four years old, in 1978, his family moved to Austria. His parents were also musicians.
Learning to Play
In 1983, Julian started studying violin at a music school in Vienna. His main teacher was Boris Kuschnir. He also learned from another great musician, Pinchas Zukerman. Julian was a "child prodigy," meaning he was super talented at a young age. He played his first public concert in 1984.
Winning Awards and Performing
In 1988, Julian won the title of Eurovision Young Musician of the Year. This big win led to many exciting opportunities. He was invited to play at the Berlin Festival with conductor Lorin Maazel. He also became the youngest soloist ever to play with the famous Vienna Philharmonic. He performed with them under the direction of Riccardo Muti.

Julian made his debut at Carnegie Hall in 2005. This is a very famous concert hall in New York City. He performed there with the New York Philharmonic and conductor Lorin Maazel.
Leading Orchestras
Julian has also become a respected conductor. In 2014, he was named the main guest conductor for the Royal Northern Sinfonia. In 2018, he became the main guest conductor for the Kristiansand Symphony Orchestra. The Kristiansand Symphony Orchestra announced in November 2022 that Julian would become their chief conductor starting with the 2023-2024 season. In January 2023, the Jerusalem Symphony Orchestra also announced that Julian would be their new music director, starting in the 2023-2024 season.
His Special Violin
Julian plays a very special violin called the "ex Liebig" Stradivarius. This violin is very old and valuable. It is loaned to him by its owner, the Dkfm. Angelika Prokopp Privatstiftung.
Recognitions
In 2000, Julian was given the International Prize of the Accademia Musicale Chigiana in Siena. This was a special award for his musical achievements.
