Alex Maleev is a talented Bulgarian comic book artist. He is famous for his work on the Marvel Comics series Daredevil. He often works with writer Brian Michael Bendis. His art even helped inspire the Daredevil TV show.
Alex Maleev's Journey in Comics
Alex Maleev started his art journey with fine arts. He first drew comics in Bulgaria. These comics were for magazines like Godan and Riko.
Moving to the United States
In 1995, Maleev moved to the United States. He joined The Kubert School, a famous art school. He was so good that he quickly moved up a year. He left the school in early 1996.
Early Professional Work
Soon after, he began working on professional comics. He drew for The Crow series. He also helped create storyboards for the "Lost in Space" movie. After that, he worked for DC Comics on Batman: No Man's Land. Sometimes, he includes hints of his Bulgarian background in his comics. For example, in Aliens vs. Predator, alien eggs are found in a Bulgarian church cellar.
Working with Brian Michael Bendis
Maleev first teamed up with writer Brian Michael Bendis in 2000. They worked on the Sam and Twitch series. Their teamwork led them to the Daredevil series. In 2006, Maleev finished his work on Daredevil with Bendis. They then planned a new Spider-Woman series.
They also worked together on the Halo: Uprising mini-series for Marvel Comics. In 2011, Bendis and Maleev started a new Moon Knight comic series. They are also creating their own comic called Scarlet.
Other Comic Projects
Maleev has drawn for other comics too. These include New Avengers: Illuminati and Civil War: The Confession. He also worked on Secret Invasion: Dark Reign. He even created artwork for the character Sylar on the TV show Heroes. Maleev often mixes photos and digital effects with his drawings. He also uses watercolors and gouache in his art.
