Alexandre Plante (born May 9, 1989) is a former professional ice hockey player. He played as a defenceman. Alexandre was born in Canada but later became a citizen of South Korea.
He was chosen by the Edmonton Oilers in the 2007 NHL Entry Draft. This was a big moment for him. His father, Cam Plante, was also a professional defenceman. His brother, Tyler, is a coach for the Brandon Wheat Kings.

Playing Ice Hockey
Starting in Junior Hockey
Alexandre Plante started his hockey journey in junior hockey. He played for the Calgary Hitmen in the Western Hockey League (WHL). The Hitmen picked him in their 2004 draft.
He became a regular player for the Hitmen in the 2005–06 season. He played in 54 games that year. In the 2006–07 season, he played 58 more games.
Drafted by the NHL
Alexandre caught the eye of scouts during the 2007 playoffs. He scored 11 points in 13 games. Because of his strong play, the Edmonton Oilers picked him 15th overall in the 2007 NHL Entry Draft. This was a higher pick than many expected!
He faced some challenges in the 2007–08 season. Injuries limited him to only 36 games. He also had some disagreements with his team.
However, he bounced back in the 2008–09 season. He became a leader on the Hitmen's defence. He scored 45 points in the regular season. He added 15 more points in the playoffs.
Professional Career Begins
After his junior career, the Oilers signed Plante to a three-year contract. He began playing professionally in the 2009–10 season. He joined the Springfield Falcons, a minor league team for the Oilers.
Alexandre made his big debut in the National Hockey League (NHL) on February 1, 2010. He played against the Carolina Hurricanes and even got an assist! He later returned to the minor leagues.
Playing in Europe and Asia
In 2013, Alexandre moved to Europe. He signed with Dornbirner EC in Austria. Later, in 2015, he joined Anyang Halla in the Asia League Ice Hockey.
He continued to play well in Asia. In 2017, he became a citizen of South Korea. This allowed him to play for the South Korean national team.
