Alexander Leonidovich Andrijevsky, born on August 10, 1968, is a former professional ice hockey player from Belarus. He played one game in the famous National Hockey League (NHL) for the Chicago Blackhawks. Most of his long career, which lasted from 1984 to 2005, was spent playing in different European leagues. Alexander also proudly represented the Belarusian national team in two Winter Olympics and several Ice Hockey World Championships. After he stopped playing, he became a coach, even leading the Admiral Vladivostok team in the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL) for several seasons.
Playing Hockey Around the World
Alexander Andrijevsky started his hockey journey in his hometown. He played for Dinamo Minsk from 1984 to 1990. In 1991, he moved to Dynamo Moscow. That same year, the Chicago Blackhawks picked him in the NHL draft. He was chosen 220th overall in the 10th round.
After one more season with Dynamo Moscow, Alexander moved to North America. He signed with the Blackhawks. For the 1992–93 season, he played for the Indianapolis Ice in the International Hockey League. He was then called up to play his only NHL game for the Blackhawks.
The next season, Alexander played only a few games for Indianapolis. He then moved to the Kalamazoo Wings in the same league. This was his last year playing in North America. He then moved to Finland to play in the SM-liiga for HPK, where he stayed for four seasons.
Later, he played in Italy for HC Bolzano and in Germany for the Krefeld Pinguine. He also played in the 2nd Bundesliga for EHC Neuwied. After that, he returned to the top German league with Revierlöwen Oberhausen for two seasons.
In 2001, Alexander went back to Russia. He played for Khimik Voskresensk in Russia's second-tier league. He later returned to Germany with EHC Freiburg. Finally, he came back to Belarus, playing for HK Gomel and then returning to Dinamo Minsk to finish his playing career in 2005.
Representing His Country
Alexander Andrijevsky was a key player for the Belarus national team. He played for his country in the 1998 and 2002 Winter Olympics. He also represented Belarus in four Ice Hockey World Championships. Playing in these big international tournaments is a huge honor for any athlete.
