Alexander López's Club Career

Starting Out in Football

Alexander López was born in Tegucigalpa, Honduras. He started playing football at a very young age. When he was just 7 years old, he joined the youth team of Olimpia. He trained and played with Olimpia's youth teams for many years. In 2010, he finally joined the club's main professional team.

Playing for Olimpia

On August 8, 2010, Alexander López played his first game in the league for Olimpia. He came into the game as a substitute. He scored his first goal in that match, helping his team win 2-0.

After the 2012 Summer Olympics, there were rumors that López might move to a European team. One team mentioned was Wigan Athletic from England. However, these rumors did not lead to a transfer. Later, a journalist claimed that the stories about Wigan's interest were just a prank. He said he and his friends made up the stories to trick news outlets.

Time with Houston Dynamo

On August 6, 2013, Alexander López moved to the Major League Soccer (MLS) team, Houston Dynamo, in the United States. He made his first appearance for them on August 20 in a CONCACAF Champions League game. Three days later, he played his first MLS league game.

Even though he showed off some amazing skills, like a 30-yard "rabona" chip, he found it hard to stay in the starting lineup. He had some trouble with homesickness and getting fully fit. He played only a few games for Houston Dynamo before the season ended.

Returning to Olimpia

On January 18, 2016, Alexander López returned to his former club, Olimpia. He signed a six-month contract. His first game back was on January 31, 2016. He helped Olimpia win the 2016 Clausura tournament. This was a big win for the club, as it was their 30th championship title.

Playing in Saudi Arabia

On June 28, 2016, López signed a two-year contract with Khaleej FC, a team in Saudi Arabia. He played his first game for them on August 12, where he also scored his first goal for the club. However, his contract with Al-Khaleej ended on January 22, 2017.

Second Return to Olimpia

After leaving Al-Khaleej, López rejoined Olimpia for a second time. He scored a goal in his very first game back on February 9, 2017. In October 2017, Alexander López helped Olimpia win the first-ever CONCACAF League tournament. They won the final match after a penalty shootout.

Moving to Alajuelense

On January 13, 2018, Alexander López signed with Alajuelense, a team in Costa Rica. He played his first league game for them in a 3-1 loss. He scored his first goal for Alajuelense in a later game against the same team, helping his club win 3-0. He played for Alajuelense until 2023.

Current Club: Olancho FC

In 2024, Alexander López joined Olancho FC, where he continues to play as an attacking midfielder.
