His Football Journey
Starting Young
Alexander López was born in Tegucigalpa, Honduras. He started playing football at a very young age. When he was just 7 years old, he joined the youth team of Olimpia, a famous football club in Honduras. He trained and played in their youth system for many years, learning and improving his skills.
Playing for Olimpia
In 2010, when he was 18, Alexander finally joined Olimpia's main team. His first game was on August 8, 2010, where he came in as a substitute. He even scored his first goal in that game, helping his team win 2-0!
After the 2012 Summer Olympics, there were rumors that Alexander might move to a team in Europe, specifically Wigan Athletic in England. However, these reports turned out to be a prank by some people. Alexander stayed with Olimpia and continued to play well.
Time in the USA: Houston Dynamo
On August 6, 2013, Alexander López moved to the United States to play for Major League Soccer team Houston Dynamo. He made his first appearance for them in a CONCACAF Champions League game. He also played in his first league game a few days later.
Even though he showed some amazing skills, like a cool trick called a "rabona chip," it was tough for him to stay in the starting lineup. He had some trouble adjusting to being away from home and keeping up his fitness. He played for Houston Dynamo for a couple of years before returning to Honduras.
Back to Olimpia and Saudi Arabia
In January 2016, Alexander came back to play for his old club, Olimpia, in Honduras. He quickly helped them win the 2016 Clausura tournament, which was Olimpia's 30th championship title!
Later in 2016, he signed a two-year contract with Khaleej FC, a team in Saudi Arabia. He scored in his first game for them. But in January 2017, his contract with Al-Khaleej ended.
After leaving Saudi Arabia, Alexander returned to Olimpia for a second time. He scored in his very first game back! In October 2017, he helped Olimpia win the first-ever CONCACAF League tournament, which was a big achievement for the club.
Winning with Alajuelense
On January 13, 2018, Alexander López moved to Costa Rica to play for Liga Deportiva Alajuelense. He quickly became an important player for them. He helped Alajuelense win the 2020 CONCACAF League in 2020 and the Apertura 2020 league title. He played many games for them, scoring a good number of goals.
In 2024, Alexander joined Olancho FC back in Honduras.
