Alexander Williams Jr. (born May 8, 1948) is a former United States district judge. He served on the United States District Court for the District of Maryland.

Early Life and Education
Alexander Williams Jr. was born in Washington, D.C. on May 8, 1948. He went to Howard University, a well-known university. In 1970, he earned his first degree, a Bachelor of Arts. He continued his studies at Howard University School of Law. In 1973, he received his law degree, called a Juris Doctor.
A Career in Law
After law school, Williams Jr. started his legal career.
- From 1973 to 1974, he worked as a law clerk for Judge James H. Taylor.
- He then worked as a private lawyer in Maryland from 1974 to 1986.
- He also served as a lawyer for the town of Fairmount Heights.
- For a short time, he was a part-time assistant public defender. This means he helped people who could not afford a lawyer.
- He also taught law at Howard University starting in 1978.
Serving Prince George's County
From 1987 to 1994, Alexander Williams Jr. served as the State's Attorney for Prince George's County, Maryland. This was a very important role. He was the first African American to be elected to this position in Prince George's County. As State's Attorney, he was the chief prosecutor for the county.
Becoming a Federal Judge
On August 6, 1993, President Bill Clinton chose Alexander Williams Jr. to become a federal judge. He was nominated to the United States District Court for the District of Maryland. The United States Senate approved his nomination on August 17, 1994. He officially became a judge on August 18, 1994.
Later Years on the Bench
Judge Williams Jr. served as a federal judge for many years. On May 8, 2013, he took senior status. This means he worked a reduced schedule. He officially retired from his active judge duties on January 3, 2014.
