Alexis is a small place in Cherokee County, Alabama. It's called an "unincorporated community" because it doesn't have its own local government like a city or town. Instead, it's managed by the county.
History of Alexis
Alexis has a short but interesting history. A post office opened here in 1884. It helped people send and receive mail for over 20 years. The post office closed down in 1906.
The name "Alexis" comes from the Cherokee language. It's an "Anglicization," which means the original Cherokee name was changed to sound more like an English word. This is a common way places get their names in areas with Native American history.
