Alfonso V (born around 994, died August 7, 1028), also known as the Noble, was the King of León from 999 to 1028. Like other kings of León, he used the special title of emperor. This showed his importance among the Christian rulers in Spain. He became king after his father, Bermudo II, passed away in 999.
When Alfonso was young, his mother Elvira García and a count named Menendo González helped him rule. Count Menendo also raised Alfonso in Galicia. After the count died in 1008, Alfonso began to rule the kingdom on his own.
