Alfred McCullough, born on July 16, 1989, is a former American football player. He was an offensive lineman, which means he helped protect the quarterback and block for running backs. Alfred played college football for the University of Alabama. He also played for teams in the National Football League (NFL) and the Arena Football League (AFL).
Early Life in Football
Alfred McCullough played high school football for the Athens High School Golden Eagles. He was a very strong player on the offensive line. Many people noticed his talent.
He was named to The Birmingham News Super All-State Team. He also earned first-team Class 5A All-State honors. The Alabama Sports Writers Association named him Class 5A Most Valuable Lineman.
In his senior year, Alfred helped his team reach the Class 5A Alabama State Championship. He made 61 tackles and 12 sacks that year. As a junior, he had 67 tackles and 11 sacks. He was also named All-Region 8 Player of the Year in 2005.
College Football Career
Alfred McCullough played for the Alabama Crimson Tide. He was part of the team from 2007 to 2011. He played in 31 games and started six of them.
In 2008, he was redshirted. This means he practiced with the team but did not play in games. This allowed him to gain more experience. The Crimson Tide won the national championship in both 2009 and 2011. This was a big achievement for Alfred and his team.
Professional Football Career
After college, Alfred McCullough hoped to play in the NFL. He was not chosen in the 2012 NFL draft. However, the Baltimore Ravens signed him on April 29, 2012. This was his first chance to play professional football.
Later that year, on May 17, 2012, the Philadelphia Eagles signed him. He continued to work hard with the Eagles. However, he was released by the team on August 25, 2012.
Alfred then moved to the Arena Football League (AFL). He signed with the Tampa Bay Storm on January 30, 2013. He played in all fourteen games his first year with the Storm. He also played in fourteen games in 2014.
After the 2015 season, Alfred became a free agent. On December 1, 2015, he was assigned back to the Storm. On June 6, 2016, he was placed on reassignment again. The next day, on June 7, 2016, the Arizona Rattlers claimed him.
