About the Stadium
The Alfredo Di Stéfano Stadium first opened its doors on Tuesday, May 9, 2006. It is part of the Ciudad Real Madrid, which is Real Madrid's large training center. This center is located outside Madrid in Valdebebas, close to the Madrid–Barajas Airport.
Opening Day and First Match
The very first match played at the stadium was a special event. It was between Real Madrid and Stade de Reims. This game was a rematch of the first European Cup final from 1956, which Real Madrid had won. Real Madrid won the opening match at their new stadium with a score of 6–1. Goals were scored by Sergio Ramos, Antonio Cassano (who scored twice), Roberto Soldado (who also scored twice), and José Manuel Jurado.
Stadium Capacity and Features
The stadium has a total of 6,000 seats for fans. The main stand on the west side has 4,000 seats, and there are an extra 2,000 seats on the eastern stand.
The Alfredo Di Stéfano Stadium has many modern features. It includes heating under the grass to keep the field in good condition. It also uses environmentally friendly solar panels. For TV and radio broadcasts, there are special areas and booths for commentators. There are also many spots for newspaper journalists and photographers. The stadium has a special media center for the press, with a press room, a photographers' room, and a TV studio.
Temporary Home for Real Madrid's Main Team
During the COVID-19 pandemic, Real Madrid's main football team used this stadium as their home ground. This happened from 2020 to 2021 because their usual stadium, the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium, was being renovated. The games played here during this time were held without any fans in the stands.
The first game for the main team at this stadium was on June 14, 2020. It was a league match against Eibar, which Real Madrid won 3–1.
Spanish National Team Matches
The stadium also hosted the Spanish national team for the first time on September 6, 2020. They played a UEFA Nations League game against Ukraine and won 4–0. The Spanish national team also played against Switzerland here in the same competition.
