Where is Algodones Located?
Algodones is found in the beautiful Rio Grande Valley. It sits on the east side of the Rio Grande river. This area is in the northeast part of the Albuquerque Basin.

A Look at Algodones' History
Near Algodones, there is a narrow passage called La Angostura. This pass was very important for trade along the Camino Real. The Camino Real was a historic road used for travel and trade.
Forts were built in this pass as early as the 1600s. These forts helped control who could travel along the road. The village of Algodones started to grow in the 1700s. Spanish settlers worked to control the river crossings and the pass through the valley.
