About Alice Goyder

Alice Kirkby Goyder was born in Bradford, a city in West Yorkshire, England. Her father was a doctor, and her mother came from Ripon. Alice was one of four children in her family.

She loved art from a young age. Alice studied at the Bradford School of Art. Later, she also took lessons at an art school in London. This school was started by the famous artist Louise Jopling. After spending some time in London, Alice returned to Bradford.

Alice was very skilled in many types of art. She painted beautiful animals and landscapes. She used both oil paints and watercolours for her paintings. She also created art using techniques like drypoint (a type of engraving) and etching. She even made woodcarvings!

Her talent was recognized early on. In 1897, she won a silver medal at the Women Artist's Exhibition. From 1899 to 1939, Alice regularly showed her art at the Royal Academy in London. This is a very important place for artists. She also exhibited her work for a long time with the Society of Women Artists, from 1900 to 1953.

Alice's art was also shown at the Walker Art Gallery in Liverpool. She was an active member of several art groups. These included the Bradford Arts Club, the East Kent Art Society, and the Ipswich Art Club. Later in her life, she lived in Faversham in Kent, and then in Orford in Suffolk. Today, the British Museum in London keeps some of her etchings.
