Alicia Dickenstein (born 17 January 1955) is an amazing Argentine mathematician. She is known for her important work in a field called algebraic geometry. This type of math helps us understand shapes and equations.
Alicia Dickenstein is a full professor at the University of Buenos Aires. She has also held important roles in the world of mathematics. For example, she was a vice-president of the International Mathematical Union. She has also won several big awards for her scientific contributions.
What She Studies
Alicia Dickenstein's research uses Algebraic geometry and combinatorics to study Biological systems. Imagine trying to figure out how a cell works without knowing every tiny detail! Her math helps predict how living systems behave.
She co-created a special system called The MESSI System. It's named after the famous footballer, Lionel Messi! MESSI stands for "Modifications of the type-Enzyme-Substrate or Swap with Intermediates." This system helps scientists understand how different parts of a biological network interact. It allows them to find general rules that work for many different systems.

Alicia Dickenstein earned her Ph.D. (a high-level university degree) from the Universidad de Buenos Aires in 1982. Her main teacher and guide for her Ph.D. was Miguel E. M. Herrera.
