Alicia Killaly (also known as Alice Killaly) was a Canadian watercolour painter. She was born in London, Ontario in 1836. During the 1840s and 1850s, she lived in Quebec City, Montreal, and Toronto. In 1871, Killaly married Christopher H. Turner, a former British soldier. She then moved to England, where she died in 1908 in Grantham, Lincolnshire.
About Alicia Killaly's Art
Alicia Killaly was known for painting beautiful outdoor scenes in Canada. Her art often showed exciting canoe trips, icy frozen rivers, and the famous Niagara Falls. She might have even learned from another well-known artist, Cornelius Krieghoff.
Famous Paintings and Prints
One of her important watercolours is Quebec From Across the St. Lawrence. She painted this around 1867. You can see this painting at the Royal Ontario Museum.
In 1868, Alicia Killaly created a series of prints called chromolithographs. This series was titled A Picnic at Montmorency. It showed a funny winter picnic scene. These prints are the only commercial work she is known for. Copies of these prints are kept at the National Gallery of Canada, the McCord Museum of Canadian History, and the Royal Ontario Museum.
Life After Marriage
After Alicia Killaly married Christopher H. Turner in 1871, she did not create any more artworks that we know of. Her artistic career mainly took place before her marriage.
