Alicia Dawn Popoff (1950 – March 9, 2015) was a Canadian abstract painter. She mostly used acrylic paints and sometimes mixed different materials in her art. Alicia also made sculptures, sometimes working with her husband, Leslie Potter, who was also an artist and sculptor. Popoff's art was shown in many exhibitions and galleries across Canada. Her work can be found in public and company art collections.

Growing Up and Learning Art

Alicia Popoff was born in 1950 in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. She studied art at the University of Saskatchewan in Saskatoon. She earned her first art degree in 1979 and a higher art degree in 1984. At first, she planned to study political science and sociology. But she quickly discovered her love for art and being an artist. Later, she taught art at the University of Saskatchewan. She also taught art classes for both children and adults.

Her Artistic Style

Popoff's artwork was inspired by the wide-open prairie landscape. She was also influenced by surrealist artists like Paul Klee and Joan Miró. She described her art as a way to think deeply about the world around her. This included everything "from the tiniest particle unseen, to the impressive and infinite sky." She also said her art was built from sounds, like birds and wind, and even tastes and smells, like the crisp winter air.

Alicia Popoff passed away on March 9, 2015, at her home in Saskatoon. She had been living with a serious illness for five years.
