All Saints' Church, Denstone is a beautiful old church located in the village of Denstone, in Staffordshire, England. It is a parish church for the local community and belongs to the Church of England. This church is very special because it is a Grade II* listed building, which means it's considered an important historical and architectural site.

History of the Church

This church was built a long time ago, between 1860 and 1862. A famous architect named George Edmund Street designed it.

The money to build the church came from a wealthy person called Sir Thomas Percival Heywood, 2nd Baronet. He also paid for other important buildings nearby.

At the same time, George Edmund Street designed other parts of the village. These included the lychgate (a covered gateway to the churchyard), the churchyard cross, the vicarage (where the vicar lives), and the village school.

Cool Features Inside

The church has many interesting features inside.

The Font

The font, which is a large basin used for baptisms, stands on four marble columns. It was also designed by Street. You can see carvings of four angels on each corner. These angels hold jars that are upside down. This design is meant to represent the four Rivers of Paradise from the Bible. A sculptor named Thomas Earp created these carvings.

Other Designs by Street

The pulpit, where sermons are given, was also designed by Street. He also designed the fancy chandeliers that hang from the ceiling. The beautiful wrought-iron screen inside the church is another one of his creations.

Stained Glass Windows

Look closely at the windows! The colourful stained glass was made by a company called Clayton and Bell. They were well-known for their amazing glass artwork.

The Church Organ

All Saints' Church has a wonderful organ. It was built in 1868 by a company called Nicholson & Son. The wooden case around the organ was designed by G. E. Street, the same architect who designed the church. You can find detailed information about this organ on the National Pipe Organ Register, which is like a big list of organs.

The Churchyard

The area around the church is called the churchyard. It is a peaceful place. In the churchyard, there is a special grave for a soldier. It is the war grave of a Colonel Bertram from the Manchester Regiment who served in World War I.
