History of All Saints' Church
Building the Church
The first stone for All Saints' Church was placed on April 11, 1908. This event is called the "foundation stone laying." The church was designed by an architect named Edwin Francis Reynolds. It was officially opened and blessed on October 30, 1908. This special ceremony was led by Charles Gore, who was the Bishop of Birmingham at the time.
How the Parish Was Formed
A "parish" is like a local area that a church serves. The All Saints' Church parish was created from land that used to belong to another church, St James' Church, Hill. This helped to serve the growing community in Four Oaks.
Church Additions and Changes
Over the years, the church building has been made bigger. In 1954, a new room called a "choir vestry" was added. This room is where the church choir gets ready. Later, in 1965, more parts were added. These included the "chancel," which is the area around the altar, and a "clergy vestry" for the church leaders. These additions were designed by a group called Wood, Kendrick & Williams.
The Church Organ
All Saints' Church has a beautiful pipe organ. This type of organ uses air blown through many pipes to make music. The organ was made by a company called Nicholson in 1921. It is a very important part of the church's music and worship. You can find detailed information about this organ in a special record called the National Pipe Organ Register.
