All Saints' Church at Boyne Hill is a very special Church of England church in Maidenhead, Berkshire, England. It is so important that it is called a Grade I listed building. This means it is one of the most important historic buildings in the country.

A Look at All Saints' Church

All Saints' Church was finished in 1857. It was designed by a famous architect named G. E. Street. This church is one of his best early works.

The church building is surrounded by other old buildings. These include the Old Vicarage, a former school, and two houses for clergy. There is also an almshouse nearby. An almshouse is a building that provides homes for people in need.

The Church's Special Style

The church was founded with an Anglo-Catholic tradition. This is a special way of practicing the Church of England faith. It is still part of this tradition today.

The first leader of the church was William Gresley. He was a very important churchman. He served from 1857 until he passed away in 1876.

A Unique Wedding Story

On January 22, 1915, something unusual happened at the church. Sgt Major Grace McDougall got married here. People say she was the first bride ever to wear a khaki uniform at her wedding!

Remembering a Hero

The beautiful cover for the church's font was a gift. It was given by the family of William Bissley. He was a soldier who sadly died in 1916 during a big battle called the Somme. The font cover was made by B. Fellowes-Prynne.

The Church Organ

All Saints' Church has a large pipe organ. It was built in 1879 by a company called J. W. Walker & Sons Ltd. This organ makes wonderful music during church services.

Why This Church is Important

In 2007, a historian named James Stevens Curl talked about All Saints' Church. He said it was one of five amazing buildings in Britain. He felt you could still see the "Victorian mastery of colour, detail, and architectural grandeur" there. This means the church shows off the amazing art and building skills from the Victorian era.

He put All Saints' Church in the same group as other famous buildings. These include the Palace of Westminster and Westminster Cathedral.
