History of the Church
A Look Back in Time
This church has been standing for a very long time! It was first built in the late 1100s, which is over 800 years ago. Over the centuries, new parts were added in the 1300s, 1400s, and 1500s.
Big Changes in the 1800s
Between 1869 and 1870, the church got a major makeover. A famous architect named Richard Norman Shaw led this big project. The roofs were completely replaced. A beautiful new window was put in the front of the church. This window was designed by Edward Burne-Jones, a well-known artist.
The floor of the main part of the church was raised. It was covered with special patterned tiles and stone. The rest of the church also got new tiles. A new heating system was installed to keep everyone warm. The organ was moved to a different spot, and the old wooden benches were replaced with new oak seats. All these improvements cost a lot of money, about £5,100 at the time.

Music in the Church
The church has a special organ made by Kirtland and Jardine. This musical instrument has two keyboards and 16 different sounds, called stops. It was first played on April 15, 1863.
