What Was the Allahabad Address?

The Allahabad Address was a speech where Sir Muhammad Iqbal talked about the future of Muslims in India. He was the president of the All-India Muslim League at the time. This group worked to protect the rights of Muslims in British India.

Why Was the Speech Important?

In his speech, Iqbal suggested that Muslims living in the northwestern parts of India should have their own independent state. He believed that these areas, where Muslims were the majority, needed their own separate country.

The Idea of a Separate State

Iqbal felt that there could not be true peace in India unless the Muslim-majority areas were given the same rights and respect as the Hindu-majority areas. He thought that having a separate state would help Muslims live freely and practice their religion without problems. This idea was a big step towards the creation of Pakistan later on.
