Allan Migi: A Church Leader
Allan Rirme Migi was born in 1960 in a place called Gasmata. He dedicated his life to serving the church. In 1990, he became a priest. A priest is a religious leader who performs ceremonies and offers spiritual guidance.
His Journey to Leadership
In the year 2000, Allan Migi became a Bishop. A Bishop is a senior leader in the church who oversees a group of churches in a specific area. He was made the Bishop of the Diocese of New Guinea Islands. A "diocese" is like a church district.
After serving for many years, he became the most senior Bishop in his church province. In July 2017, a special group of five church leaders chose him for a very important role. He was chosen to be the 7th Archbishop and Primate of the Anglican Church of Papua New Guinea. This means he became the main leader for all Anglican churches in the country. He took over from the previous leader, Clyde Igara.
Becoming the Primate
Allan Migi officially started his new role on September 3, 2017. This special ceremony is called an "enthronement." It took place at All Souls Church in Lae. Lae is a city in the Morobe Province of Papua New Guinea. From November 2017, his main office and leadership were based in Lae. He also looked after another church area called the Diocese of Aipo Rongo.
Many important church leaders from other countries came to his enthronement. These included Bishops from the Church of England, the Anglican Church of Australia, the Anglican Church in Aotearoa, New Zealand and Polynesia, and the Anglican Church of Melanesia. Their presence showed how important his new role was.
Later Life and Passing
Allan Migi served as the Archbishop and Primate for nearly three years. On May 11, 2020, he decided to step down from his role. He resigned because he was not feeling well. Sadly, he passed away a few months later, on October 22, 2020. He died at his home village, Gasmata, in the Western Province.
