How the Area Was Created

The Allegheny National Recreation Area was officially created in 1984. This happened because of a law called the Pennsylvania Wilderness Act. Important people like Congressman Bill Clinger, Senator Arlen Specter, and Senator John Heinz helped make this law happen. They wanted to protect this beautiful natural space for everyone to enjoy.
