Geography of Allenport
Allenport is in the eastern part of Huntingdon County. To its north is the town of Mount Union. Across the Juniata River to the northeast is Kistler, which is in Mifflin County.
Roads and Rivers
U.S. Route 522 goes right through Allenport. This road leads north into Mount Union. It also goes south about 5 miles to Shirleysburg. Pennsylvania Route 103 starts in Allenport at US 522. It then goes northeast along the Juniata River for about 18 miles to Mattawana.
The Juniata River is an important natural feature. It flows along the edge of Allenport.
Railroad History
The old tracks of the East Broad Top Railroad pass through Allenport. This railroad used to be a narrow-gauge line. A third rail was added to some parts of the tracks. This created "dual-gauge" tracks. This allowed both narrow and standard gauge trains to use them.
In the mid-2000s, there were plans to fix up these tracks. The Mount Union Connecting Railroad started the work. However, the repairs were never fully finished.
