The Allt Graad (also called the River Glass) is a river in Easter Ross, Highland, Scotland. Its name comes from a Scottish Gaelic phrase, Allt Grànnda, which means 'Ugly Stream'. You might also see it called "Allt Grande" or "Aultgraad" on old maps.

Around 2011, a special project called a hydro-electric scheme was being built on the Allt Graad. This project uses the river's natural flow to make electricity. It's located on the lower part of the river, right next to the famous Black Rock Gorge. A company called RWE Npower operates this scheme, and it can create 3.5 megawatts of power.

Where the River Flows

The Allt Graad flows for about 9 kilometers (which is about 5 and a half miles). It starts its journey at Loch Glass and then travels through a beautiful valley called Glen Glass.

As it continues, the river passes by the town of Evanton. A very interesting part of its journey is through the Black Rock Gorge. This gorge is well-known in local stories, especially one about the Lady of Balconie. Finally, the Allt Graad reaches the Cromarty Firth, which is an inlet of the sea. It meets the sea about a mile away from where another river, the River Sgitheach, also flows into the sea.
