History of Aloha
The community of Aloha got its name on January 9, 1912. Before that, it was known as Wheeler Crossing. People aren't completely sure how Aloha got its name.
One story says a railroad worker named Robert Caples chose the name. Another story comes from Joseph H. Buck. He said his uncle, Julius Buck, was the first postmaster. Julius might have named the post office "Aloah" after a small resort in Wisconsin. The Post Office might have accidentally switched two letters, making it "Aloha." Even so, most people in the area say "Aloha" with a short "o" sound, not like the Hawaiian "Aloha."
In 1984, the community tried to become an official city. However, a local commission stopped the plan. They decided that Aloha could not provide all the services a city needs.
In 2012, the Aloha Community Library opened. It is located in a shopping center. The library is run by a non-profit group called the Aloha Community Library Association. Volunteers help to run the library. When it first opened, it had about 4,500 books.
