Alonso Verdugo de Castilla became the 3rd Count of Torrepalma around 1721. He received this title after his father, Pedro Verdugo, the 2nd Count of Torrepalma, passed away. His father was from Seville and was a Knight of the Order of Alcántara.

Alonso's mother was Isabel de Castilla y Lasso de Castilla. Her family had a connection to King Pedro I of Castile from many centuries ago.

When Alonso was 19 years old, he became a member of the Maestranza de Caballería of Granada. This was a special group for noblemen. Later, in 1756, at the age of 50, he became a Knight of the Order of Calatrava. This was another important honor.
