Alonzo D. "Buster" Boone (born January 13, 1908 – died April 8, 1982) was an American baseball player. He was a talented pitcher and later became a manager. Alonzo Boone played in the Negro leagues from 1929 to 1947. He played for many different teams during his career. After his playing days, he managed the Cleveland/St. Louis Buckeyes from 1948 to 1950.

Alonzo Boone's Baseball Journey
Alonzo Boone was known by his nickname, "Buster." He was born in Decatur, Alabama. He became a professional baseball player in the Negro leagues. These leagues were very important for African-American players. They played at a time when major league baseball was not open to everyone.
Playing as a Pitcher
Boone was a right-handed pitcher. He started his career in 1929 with the Memphis Red Sox. He played for several teams throughout his career. One of his most notable teams was the Kansas City Monarchs. He played with them for many years, from 1926 to 1934, and again in 1936.
He also played for the Cleveland Cubs in 1931. Later, he joined the Birmingham Black Barons in 1932 and again from 1944 to 1945. His career also included time with the Cleveland Bears from 1939 to 1940. He played for the Cleveland Buckeyes in 1942, and again from 1946 to 1947.
A Difficult Time
In 1942, Alonzo Boone was involved in a car accident. This happened on September 7, 1942. He was injured in the accident. Other players, like Eugene Bremmer, Herman Watts, and Wilbur Hayes, were also hurt.
Becoming a Manager
After his playing career, Boone took on a new role. He became a manager. From 1948 to 1950, he managed the Cleveland Buckeyes. This team was sometimes called the St. Louis Buckeyes. This shows his dedication to baseball, even after his playing days were over.
