The Alouette River is a river in British Columbia, Canada. It flows into the Pitt River.

Did you know the Alouette River had a different name before 1914? It used to be called the Lillooet River. Its name was changed to avoid confusion with a much larger river also called Lillooet. The name "Alouette" is French for "lark," a type of bird. It was chosen because it sounds similar to "Lillooet."

Where Does the Alouette River Flow?

The Alouette River starts when two smaller rivers join together. These are called the North Alouette River and the South Alouette River.

The North Alouette River

The North Alouette River is the smaller of the two. It begins at a place called Jacobs Lake. From there, it flows south until it meets the South Alouette River.

The South Alouette River

The South Alouette River starts on the slopes of Mount Robie Reid. It then flows into Alouette Lake. After leaving the lake, it flows west. Finally, it joins up with the North Alouette River.

The Main River's Journey

Once the North and South Alouette Rivers meet, they form the main Alouette River. This river then flows west. About halfway to its end, the river goes over a small set of waterfalls. Eventually, the Alouette River flows into the Pitt River. The Pitt River then flows south to join the mighty Fraser River, which is east of Vancouver.
