Mount Robie Reid: A Notable Peak

Mount Robie Reid is a well-known landmark in its region. Even though it's not the tallest mountain, many people can see it from far away. It's a great example of the beautiful natural landscape in British Columbia.

How Mount Robie Reid Got Its Name

For a long time, Mount Robie Reid and Mount Judge Howay were known as the "Snow Peaks." Older residents used to call Mount Robie Reid "Old Baldy." This was likely because its top might have looked bare or rocky.

In 1944, the mountain was given its current name. It was named after Robie Lewis Reid. He was a famous historian and educator. His friend and colleague, Frederic W. Howay, also had a mountain named after him: Mount Judge Howay. This shows how important these two people were to the area.

Where You Can See Mount Robie Reid

Mount Robie Reid might not be the highest mountain, but it's very visible. You can see it clearly from western Abbotsford. It's also visible from Maple Ridge, North Surrey, and the areas of New Westminster and Coquitlam. However, if you are in most parts of Mission, British Columbia, you might not be able to see it. This is because smaller mountains and hills block the view from there.
