Alquina's History
Alquina was founded a long time ago, in 1813, by a person named Joseph Vanmeter. Some people think it might have been named after a town in France called Alquines.
A post office was opened in Alquina in 1832. This was a place where people could send and receive letters. The post office stayed open for many years, but it eventually closed in 1903.
Where is Alquina?
Alquina was located in the eastern part of Indiana. It was about 5 miles (or 8 kilometers) east of the center of a larger town called Connersville.
The Blue Arrows School
Alquina was once home to the Alquina Blue Arrows High School. This school was an important part of the community for many years. The high school closed its doors in 1966. However, the elementary school in Alquina continued to operate for a while longer, finally closing in 2010.
