History of Alta
How Alta Began
Alta was first planned out in 1872. It officially became a city in 1878. By 1882, Alta was a busy town! It had many different shops and businesses.

Where is Alta Located?
Alta is found at coordinates 42°40′19″N 95°18′17″W / 42.67194°N 95.30472°W. It's about six miles from the city of Storm Lake. It's also about seven miles from Aurelia. You can find Alta right on Highway 7.

School District Information
Alta is part of the Alta–Aurelia Community School District. Before this, it was in the Alta Community School District. That district used to run Alta High School.
The Alta and Aurelia school districts joined together on July 1, 2018. This created the new Alta–Aurelia Community School District.
