Alto Sano (also known as Altosano) is a small area or "barrio" in the town of San Sebastián, Puerto Rico. In 2010, about 920 people lived there. It's like a neighborhood within a bigger town.

A Look Back at Alto Sano's History

After the Spanish–American War, Spain gave Puerto Rico to the United States. This happened because of a peace agreement called the Treaty of Paris of 1898. Puerto Rico then became a special area of the United States. It is called an "unincorporated territory." This means it belongs to the U.S. but is not a state.

In 1899, the United States government counted all the people in Puerto Rico. This count is called a census. They found that Alto Sano and a nearby area called Sonador had 862 people living there together.
