Altona is a small community in New York, United States. It is known as a hamlet and a census-designated place (CDP). This means it's a small village that the government counts separately for population data. Altona is located in Clinton County. In 2010, about 730 people lived here. The whole town of Altona had a population of 2,887 people at that time.

Geography of Altona

The community of Altona is in the northern part of the larger town of Altona. Its exact location is 44°53′24″N 73°39′9″W / 44.89000°N 73.65250°W / 44.89000; -73.65250. A river called the Great Chazy River flows along the southeastern side of Altona. The river drops about 150 feet (46 meters) over 1.7 miles (2.7 kilometers) in this area.

Southwest of Altona, you can find the Ganienkeh Community. This is a special area for the Mohawk people. The United States Census Bureau says that the Altona CDP covers about 4.4 square kilometers (1.7 square miles) of land. There is no water area within the CDP.
