Alyona Minkovski was born in Moscow. She grew up in California, in the United States. Her mother is Irina Rodnina, a famous figure skater and politician. Her father is Leonid Minkovski, an entrepreneur from a Russian Jewish family.
When Alyona was four years old, her family moved to the United States. She later went to the University of California, Santa Cruz. There, she earned a degree in politics. This means she studied how governments work and how people make decisions in society.

From August 2012 to December 2016, Alyona Minkovski was a host for HuffPost Live. This was an online network run by The Huffington Post. During 2016, she reported on the US election. She traveled across the country to cover important events like primary elections and debates.
