Dame Amanda Anne Milling DBE (born 12 March 1975) is a British politician. She served as a Member of Parliament (MP) for Cannock Chase. She was an MP from the 2015 general election until 2024.
Amanda Milling held important roles in the UK government. She was a Minister without Portfolio. This means she was a minister without a specific department. She also served as Co-Chairman of the Conservative Party. Later, she became the Minister of State for Asia and the Middle East. Before becoming an MP, she worked in market research.

Early Life and Education
Amanda Milling was born on 12 March 1975. Her birthplace was Burton upon Trent in Staffordshire, England. She went to Moreton Hall School, a private school.
After school, she studied at University College London. She focused on economics and statistics. She graduated from university in 1997. While at university, she joined the Conservative Party.
Career Before Politics
After university, Amanda Milling started working in market research. She joined a company called SW1 Research. In 1999, she moved to Quaestor. There, she worked her way up to become a director. From 2010 to 2014, she was the head of clients for Optimisa Research.
Becoming an MP
Amanda Milling began her political career locally. In 2009, she was elected as a Conservative councillor. She represented the Helmshore ward in Rossendale Borough Council. Three years later, she became the deputy group leader on the council.
In 2014, she stepped down from her council role. This was because she was chosen to run for MP in Cannock Chase. The MP at the time, Aidan Burley, was leaving his position.
First Election Victory
In the 2015 general election, Amanda Milling won her seat. She became the MP for Cannock Chase. She won with a majority of 4,923 votes.
After this election, there was an investigation. It looked into how campaign money was spent. The Electoral Commission fined the Conservative Party. This was for issues with reporting spending. However, the police decided not to take further action against individuals. They found no clear evidence of dishonest actions.
Parliamentary Work
From 2015 to 2017, Amanda Milling was busy in Parliament. She served on important committees. These included the Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy Committee. She also worked on the Education, Skills and the Economy Sub-Committee.
She was part of inquiries into big companies. These included the collapse of BHS and working practices at Sports Direct. She also helped with new laws. These included the Welfare Reform and Work Bill.
Key Government Roles
Amanda Milling supported the UK staying in the European Union. This was during the 2016 UK EU membership referendum. After the public voted to leave, she helped with Boris Johnson's leadership campaign.
Re-election and Promotions
In the 2017 general election, she was re-elected. Her majority increased to 8,391 votes. In January 2018, she became an assistant government whip. Whips help make sure MPs vote as their party wants.
She supported Prime Minister Theresa May's Brexit plan in 2019. When Boris Johnson became Prime Minister in July 2019, she got a new role. She was appointed Deputy Chief Whip and Treasurer of the Household. She also voted for Johnson's Brexit plan.
In the 2019 general election, she won again. Her majority grew even more, to 19,879 votes. In February 2020, she was promoted. She became Chairman of the Conservative Party. She also became a Minister without Portfolio.
Minister of State
In September 2021, Amanda Milling took on a new role. She became the Minister of State for Asia and the Middle East. This meant she focused on the UK's relationships with countries in these regions. She left this role in September 2022.
In November 2023, she was appointed a Lord Commissioner of the Treasury. This is another government role.
Honours and Recognition
In February 2020, Amanda Milling became a Privy Counsellor. This is a special group of advisors to the King. It gives her the title The Right Honourable for life.
On 9 June 2023, she received a high honour. She was appointed Dame Commander of the Order of the British Empire (DBE). This means she can use the title "Dame" before her name.
